If you don't follow them and you like decor on the cheap and DIY decor, you should really join the bandwagon. If you haven't been following them, some quick background is that they recently sold their first home and have been working like crazy to fix up their new house. They've made many furniture and accessory purchases to accommodate their new digs as of late, and I can't help but think they've been stealing purchase ideas from my house:). The following is my evidence.
In their newly furnished, cheery and bright master bedroom they decided to go with a fun pendant light:

It's the IKEA Maskros pendant, and it just happens to be the same pendant light that Bill and I picked out late last fall for our recently finished basement playroom.
I have no proof that ours went up first because I've only been blogging for about a month, but I'm not a liar, and I'm fairly confident I could dig up the receipt. Also, Bill's family came over for a Christmas celebration in the middle of December and they could vouch for me. Anyway, we love it, and I was happy that John and Sherry share the same light love.
Next up, John and Sherry chose a rug for their master bedroom:

They narrowed down their choices and landed on Pottery Barn's Diamond Jute Rug which is no longer available. It made me laugh to see this choice, because it's the same rug we have in our dining room currently:
We picked it up on the way home from the closing on our house last summer and used our 'we just moved' Pottery Barn 10% off coupon on it. I even commented to YHL on their blog that I hope their rug holds up better than ours. Regardless, their rug choice made me smile.
In the same post, they showed this fluffy Target pillow on their bed (shown in my family room):
It's the same pillow I hunted down in late December/early January. I saw it at one Target store but didn't purchase it thinking I could pick it up a different day, but then I couldn't find it again. Some stores didn't have a shelf place for it, some did but it was sold out. The pillow eluded me for weeks. Finally, after a particularly rough morning in mid January, I found the pillow at a Target store in a nearby town and used a Christmas Target gift card from my bro to pay for it. I love the pillow and you can't beat the $11.99 price tag, although it does go on sale 10% off now and then, and I picked up a second one during one of those sales. I have them in our family room now, and they are favorites!
So now I share the same light fixture, rug and pillow as the Youngsters, but then Sherry's post from yesterday was just nuts. See these lamps on their amazing, homemade console?

Yeah, I have the same lamp. It was a housewarming present from Bill. I had sent him a picture of it on my cell phone because I loved it so much, but couldn't handle the Home Goods price tag of $60. He went out and picked it up as a surprise. The lamp was there waiting for me when I showed my Mom our empty, new house for the first time last June. It was temporarily in our master bedroom, and you can see it here in our family room during the Christmas season (bad photo, lo siento).
And during February (see my fluffy white pillow on the couch?):
I guess all I can say is that if there is a style called 'Young House Love', that must be my style. Others have their vintage modern or their eclectic farmhouse or their shabby chic styles going on. I have Young House Love, and I'm good with that:).
Update: Stop it already. See YHL's post from today? Check out my pennant banner that was partially inspired by Urban Outfitter's version and partially by YHL scrapbook paper banner they did in their old office:
This banner is in our learning center, and it is currently a disaster...full of Lucky Room accessories and assorted other stuff. I'll post more on my pennant banner in the near future...once I have the chance to clean up the space a bit:).

I feel like that all the time! We'll have just finished a fun project and decide to write a blog post about it. Sure enough, between when we start writing and actually post we'll see the same project pop up somewhere in the blogosphere! And then it looks like we just jumped on the band wagon. Oh well, at least it means we have good style :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously. Today's YHL post was hilarious to me again. Last week, I finished hand sewing a cloth pendant banner for our loft learning center (above the map bulletin board), but I haven't posted it yet because that area is such a mess from Lucky's room redo and because it was honestly inspired by YHL's scrapbook paper banner they had in their old office. I felt like I did enough YHL linkage in the last week or so, so I've been holding off on posting. Good grief:). I love the banner, so I guess that's all that matters.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me what color that is on the walls in your playroom, please? :)
